Growers listened attentively as Chefs explained what type of produce and relationships they are looking for when working with small scale farmers.

What tips do leading Oakland Chef’s have for beginning urban farmers?

On Wednesday, March 11th, SAGE hosted a workshop bringing together several of chefs from some of Oakland’s finest eateries spoke about their commitment to supporting local growers.  Approximately 20 farmers gathered and attentively listened as chefs provided tips on how to build long-term working relationships in the restaurant industry.

All chefs agreed that if a farmer followed the tips below, their hard work would not go unnoticed and fruitful relationships would follow:

  • Provide unique produce items
  • Take and value feedback
  • Provide consistent quality
  • Be a professional

So remember, build strong relationships with chefs and don’t be afraid to think outside of the box!
