Dr. Jennifer Sowerwine serves as Associate Cooperative Extension Specialist with UC Agriculture and Natural Resources and UC Berkeley’s Department of Environmental Science, Policy and Management. Her work engages diverse stakeholders across the spectrum of the food system to build equitable, economically viable and culturally relevant food systems that promote healthy communities, ecological resilience, social justice and sustainable livelihoods. With Growing Roots, Jennifer’s work delves into the current realities and policy needs of sustainable food production paired with equitable food access. Her Extension outreach approach is to shift from “extending” knowledge and information toward co-production of knowledge and educational materials that build on community assets and respond to public priorities.
