Growing Roots was founded in 2015 as part of a Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Grant (Principal Investigator: Dr. Jennifer Sowerwine) that was designed to provide training and facilitate resource sharing and networking among small-scale farmers, ranchers and farm educators associated with various farmer learning hubs across the Bay Area and beyond. Many of the resources and tip sheets generated from that project can be found in the additional resources section.
Currently, the Growing Roots team is defined by those working on the 2018-2021 Sustainable Urban Farming for Resilience and Food Security project, focused on practices, food access, and urban agroecology-relevant policy primarily in the East Bay.
